There is more animal diversity in the wetland biome than any other biome type.

Wetlands make up only 5 percent of the land area of the lower 48 states; however, more than one-third of threatened and endangered species live exclusively in wetlands. Equivalent to the species variation and abundance of tropical rain forests and coral reefs, wetlands are some of the most biologically productive natural ecosystems in the world.
